All students at University of St Andrews automatically become members of the Students' Association when they matriculate, except if they decide to opt out of membership. This applies no matter whether you're an undergraduate or postgraduate student, whether you're studying full-time or part-time, and even whether you're in St Andrews or not.
Student members are called 'ordinary members' and you are an ordinary member for as long as you study at St Andrews. Only ordinary members can stand for election or vote in elections.
You don't have to be a student to be a member of the Students' Association. Other people are members too. These other members can't stand for election or vote in elections, but they have the other rights of membership, including the right to use the facilities of the Association and sign in guests.
Other types of members are:
Staff of the University and the Association
If you're a member of staff at the University, or at the Students' Association, you automatically become an associate member.
Other Associate members
If you have a strong connection to the Association, but are not a student, a member of staff, or a life member (for example, if you are the partner of a member, or are a longstanding member of one of our affiliated societies), you may be able to buy an associate membership. Access outwith current membership
All Alumni from University of St Andrews can access the Union without signing in but please make sure you've got ID with you.
If you are a current student from a reciprocal University you do not need to pay or be signed in, please email or call to find out if your Univeristy is on the list.
Alumni, students and staff can sign in up to four people, the cost of this is £1 on a weekday and £2 on a weekend. This is done at reception either in advance or at the time you require entry but please note if you are going to a busy event please check that sign ins are allowed and if they are please get there early.
Please note sign ins must be 18 years or over.

Admittance of persons under 18
During Term Time
Young Persons aged 16 and 17 will not be admitted to the licenced areas of this building after 7pm unless they are Members of the Association.
All Children aged 0-15 will not be permitted to the licenced areas after 7pm.
Children 0-15 years old and Young Persons 16 and 17 years old will be permitted throughout at the discretion of the Personal Licence Holder on Duty as long as they are members of the Association or children/wards of a Member of the Association.
