1413 Teaching Awards

The Students’ Association recently recognised 12 outstanding staff members for their contributions to learning, teaching, and research at the University as part of the 1413 Awards. 

Maintaining a 14-year tradition, students nominated exceptional educators for an award, and two panels of student representatives picked a shortlist and winners for each category.  

Hitanshi Badani, Arts & Divinity Faculty President; Calum Naughton, Science & Medicine Faculty President; Callum Irvine, Postgraduate Research President; Cooper Smith, Postgraduate Taught President, and Barry Will, Association President presented awards alongside four student nominators, to this year’s recipients.  

In addition, the Education Executive Committee within the Students’ Association presented two new awards, one for Outstanding Partnership in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and a second for overall Outstanding Partnership with Academic Representation. 

  • Outstanding Commitment to Academic Inclusivity: Eric Stoddart (Divinity)
  • Outstanding Academic Mentorship: Peter Mackay (English)
  • Outstanding Innovation in Teaching: Chris Sutherland (Mathematics & Statistics)
  • Outstanding Dissertation, Thesis, or Project Supervisor (Undergraduate): William McCarthy (Earth & Environmental Sciences)
  • Outstanding Dissertation, Thesis, or Project Supervisor (Postgraduate): Sam Pehrson (Psychology & Neuroscience)
  • Outstanding Professional Service Staff Member​: Rosanne Horn (Student Services)
  • Outstanding Teacher (Arts/Divinity): Roberta Marangi (English)
  • Outstanding Teacher (Science/Medicine): Enis Cezayirli (Medicine)
  • Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant or Demonstrator (Science/Medicine): Maddie Murphy (Earth & Environmental Sciences)
  • Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant (Arts/Divinity): Abdulrahman Alsayed (Modern Languages)
  • Outstanding Partnership in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion: Rahul Rao (International Relations)
  • Outstanding Partnership with Academic Representation: Sharon Leahy (Associate Dean Students (Sciences))
