Hey there, I'm Robert Aston and I’m your Equal Opportunities Officer for this year!
I'm a third year IR student hailing from Northern Ireland. As the Equal Opportunities Officer it's my job to chair the Equal Opportunities Committee, to promote dialogue between other officers, forward improvements to be made to the SRC, and organise event initiatives, ultimately with the aim of making the diversity of the student body recognised and appreciated.
St Andrews gets a bad rep for being quite homogenous, but in reality the make-up of our student body would prove that quite wrong. That being said there are areas for improvement (nobody's perfect), so it's our committee's job to make sure that all students regardless of their socio-economic background, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability status, age, ethnicity - or any other discriminating factor for that matter is made to feel comfortable.
If you'd like to collaborate, or have any queries / suggestions please feel free to drop me an email, alternatively if you'd like a cup of coffee to discuss things I'd be very much down.
