Hello, my name is Lydia and I am the SRC Employability Officer.
Employability is a vital aspect of our University experience. St Andrews is a place where important skills can be developed, which will have a big impact upon our careers. Students need to given as much support as possible to help them decide where their talents lie best. It is important that students are made aware of the various opportunities that are open to them to inform themselves about what it is they want to do in life post-St Andrews.
So what will I do to put this into practice? The results of the Employability Survey tell a lot about the kind of changes that need to be made to the current system. Listening to the student body is the only effective way of making important changes. I intend to collaborate with School Presidents to organise subject-specific career talks, trying to account for the diversity of career paths that students hope to take. I will work to get a wider variety of speakers in, from different career backgrounds, seeking to inform students about the various options that are available for them.
All these changes will, I hope, give students a greater chance of finding imaginative and appropriate career paths for themselves.
