About the Position

The Postgraduate Activities Officer leads the Postgraduate Committee to ensure postgraduates feel welcome in St Andrews and make the most of their time at the University.

Specifically, the Postgraduate Activities Officer:

• Provides leadership to the Postgraduate Society
• Oversees the provision of services and social activities for postgraduate students
• Represents postgraduate students’ interests to the Student Representative Council
• Convenes and chairs the Postgraduate Society Committee meetings
• Organises regular collaborations with St Leonard’s College to provide activities for the postgraduate community
• Ensures the provision of social activities for postgraduate students over the summer
• Promotes the Postgraduate Society to students during Freshers’ Week
• Organises regular events for postgraduates during the year
• Liaises with postgraduate officers and presidents of other societies and subcommittees of the Students’ Association, the Director of Education, Director of Student Development and Activities, and other elected officers, and staff of the Students’ Association
• Writes “The Sunday Postgraduate” in consultation with the Postgraduate Academic Convenor
• Manages the postgraduate president email address, and Facebook page, responding to questions and referring students who need pastoral care on to the appropriate resource

Note on Eligibility: Only postgraduate students matriculated for the full term of office may run for this role during the Association Elections.

Role holders take office in October and end their term the following September. On average, the Postgraduate Activities Officer spends between 5 and 10 hours per week on their role.
