Design and Marketing Team
About the roles:
We’re looking for creative and motivated students to help showcase student activities, promote events, and strengthen our student engagement. These are exciting opportunities to gain hands-on experience in digital media, marketing, and communications.
Rate of pay:
Current rate of pay is £12.21 per hr.
Equipment requirements:
You are required to supply your own equipment and use your own programmes where possible.
Shifts and availability:?
The roles involve a combination of days, evenings and weekend working. Shifts will vary week to week according to the needs of the operation.
We aim to have a bank of a few staff to pick up shifts as and when required.
Approx 5 – 10 hrs per week. Peak times during Freshers’ Week
Roles:
Content Creator:
Responsibilities:
- Develop and schedule engaging content (photos, videos, stories, posts) for social media channels
- Cover Union events and initiatives through live content and recaps
- Coordinate with the marketing team to collaborate with student groups to highlight activities and share stories
- Assist with graphic design, captions, and basic video editing
- Monitor trends and engagement to recommend new content ideas
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Canva
- A creative mindset with an eye for visual storytelling
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to work evenings or weekends during events
- Photography or video editing skills a plus
Photographer:
Responsibilities:
- Photograph Union events, student activities, and general Union activities
- Edit and organise images for use on social media, newsletters, and promotional materials
- Coordinate with the marketing team to fulfil photography needs for campaigns
- Maintain an organised archive of photos
- Uphold privacy and consent standards for all photography
Requirements:
- Access to a DSLR preferred
- Basic photo editing skills (Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar)
- Strong eye for composition, lighting, and storytelling
- Ability to work evenings or weekends during events
- Good communication and time management skills
Videographer:
Responsibilities:
- Film Union events, interviews, and student-led activities
- Edit short-form videos for social media, websites, and promotional use
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop video concepts and storyboards
- Ensure high-quality video and audio standards
- Manage and organise video files for future use
Requirements:
- Access to video recording equipment (DSLR, mirrorless, or phone with stabiliser) preferred
- Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or CapCut)
- A strong sense of visual storytelling, pacing, and audience engagement
- Ability to meet deadlines and work some evenings or weekends during events
- Reliable, organised, and a team player
Graphic Designer:
Responsibilities:
- Design promotional materials such as posters, flyers, social media graphics, and digital signage primarily for the Student Engagement Team
- Collaborate with the marketing teams on branding and campaign assets
- Ensure consistency with the Unions visual guidelines
- Revise designs based on feedback and meet project deadlines
- Organise and maintain design files and templates for team use
Requirements:
- Strong eye for layout, colour, and typography
- Proficiency and access to design tools such as Canva, Adobe , Indesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop
- Creativity and attention to detail
- Ability to balance multiple projects and work independently
- Previous design experience (academic or personal) is a plus
