It had started in February, promising only flames to bloom in the spring. Now, the war is over, and a once great city lies buried in ash. All that remains are the women. They sing of their fallen city and the terrible futures that await them, led by Hecabe, their fallen queen reduced to slavery. Her daughters, Cassandra and Andromache, join her to lament what has befallen them and cry at the terrifying futures awaiting them. Helen knows she must battle for her own survival, with only her words as her weapon, and every woman trembles at the sight of the soldiers coming to enslave them. The wails of women broken by war have echoed across the millennia, through borders and barricades, to reach our ears today from Ukraine. Will you listen?
