Since 1993, Women for Women International has helped nearly 429,000 marginalized women in countries affected by war and conflict, and has helped foster sisterhood within these regions.

We directly work with women in 8 countries offering support, tools, and access to life-changing skills to move from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency.

We bring women living within post-conflict regions together in a safe space to learn life, business, and vocational skills.  Once enrolled, each receives a monthly stipend – a vital support that enables her to participate.

Our team conducts surveys with women at enrolment, and again at graduation, to measure the impact of our programme on women’s lives.  According to our most recent set of results from Afghanistan, women’s average daily income increased from $0.10 at enrolment to $1.27 one year later. 98% are now saving a portion of their income and 97% now have a knowledge of their rights - compared with 1% a year before. In Nigeria, women’s average daily income increased from $0.43 at enrolment to $1.17 one year later. 92% are now saving a portion of their income and 98% now have a knowledge of their rights - compared with 3% a year before.

Women increase their ability to earn an income with new skills that are in-demand. They learn about their legal rights, and they become knowledgeable about health and nutrition. The result: stronger women, stronger families, and stronger communities. This ripple effect is profound.

The St Andrews branch of W4W sponsors several women through this year long program by heavily fundraising for this amazing organization. Furthermore, the society is a way to meet incredible men and women within the university! From art exhibitions to sports matches to activist demonstrations,  we put on many events throughout the year and are always looking for new members and support. We also host society bonding events, and are always looking for new faces and members to be a part of a wonderful cause! :) Please email womenforwomen@st-andrews.ac.uk for more info, or reach out over Facebook messenger!
