Meet people, do stuff.
Economics

The economics society is a one stop shop for all your economics needs and wants. From career talks to speakers events, we have something for you. So come join one of St Andrews' best societies!

Careers events

The economics society runs careers events throughout the year with alumni and employees from industries such as consulting, investment banking, asset management and technology. In September we begin with our interns talk, where current students who have recently interned at a range of firms and institutions discuss their experiences applying, preparing for interviews and their times at the companies. The careers events are a great opportunity to get first-hand knowledge of a range of fields and companies, start networking with people and get advice for applications and interviews for highly competitive positions.

Speakers’ events

Throughout the year, the economics society runs a number of speakers events with leading figures from the economics profession, business and technology. The events are a great way to learn about a number of interesting topics and peoples experiences working in different institutions. During the past year, we have had highly informative discussions with speakers such as Professor Ricardo Reis of the LSE on inflation, Eleanor Dillon on her experiences being an economist at Microsoft, Professor Karen Dynan of Harvard on her experiences working in the US government and her thoughts on the US economy and many many more!

Socials

We run a wide range of social events throughout the year. From our welcome barbecue in the beautiful Spanish Gardens by the economics department to our cocktail nights and our Bull & Bear Ball, we have where students can make friends, relax and enjoy their St Andrews experience!

Friendly econ

Friendly econ is our tutoring scheme that holds weekly drop-in sessions for first- and second-year students taking economics modules. These sessions are intended to give students a platform to ask questions about lecture content but are also a great way to meet other economics students!

Please get in touch with Ming Lee (mwl2) if you are an honours or postgraduate student interested in joining as a tutor or a sub-honours student with any questions about being a tutee

EPRG

The Economics Policy & Research Group (EPRG) was founded in 2015 with the aim of promoting thought leadership in economics at the University of St Andrews. We are a student run research group conducting high-quality research into economics matters affecting students at the university. We have previously released reports into the effects of immigration on the British economy, the gender pay gap and the relationship between climate change and behavioural economics. Email eprg@st-.. Or get in touch with our social media to get involved.

St Andrews Economist

The St Andrews Economist is the official publication of the St Andrews Economics Society. Our team of writers and editors work together to write articles covering topics such as global affairs, economic policy, business news, and culture. In addition to publishing articles, we also produce a Podcast, The Bulletin, where new episodes are released weekly. If you are interested in contributing to the St Andrews Economist, please reach out to any member of our editorial board; Ross Hutton (rah31) or Ming Lee (mwl2)
