Welcome to the 93% Club St Andrews! We are a student-run society that is dedicated to improving the experience of state school students at the University of St Andrews.
We aim to break down the divide between state and private school students, and ensure that students from state school backgrounds have an equally positive experience during university and post graduation. 93% of the UK’s high school students are state educated, yet at St Andrews our cohort represents 60.2% of the total student body.
The University of St Andrews has the second highest density of privately educated students in the UK. There is an expressed need to voice the experiences and opinions of state school students and specifically address and alleviate our gap in social capital and future career opportunities post-graduation.
The original 93% Club was founded by Sophie Pender of Bristol University and is now a fast growing network of societies at traditionally elite and Russell Group universities.
