Postgraduate Events Fund

The purpose of the Postgraduate Events Fund is to encourage the inclusion of Postgraduates within affiliated Societies by funding events aimed at increasing engagement with the Society from Postgraduates and supporting Postgraduate academic representatives in organising events not related to academic representation.  

Value of the Fund

The total amount that the Fund can award during the academic year shall be set by the Sabbatical Officers during the budget setting process prior to the start of September. The Fund will consider grant applications for a full calendar year (1st July-30th June). The maximum amount that can be applied for is £250.

Administration of the Fund

The Fund shall be administered by the PG Events Fund Committee, which shall consist of the Director of Student Development and Activities, Director of Education, and the Association Management Accountant. 

Applicants may request as part of their application that the Students Association provide support with advertising the event to postgraduate students.

For each application, the committee shall decide whether to:

  1. Approve the application in full
  2. Approve the application in part
  3. Request further information
  4. Reject the application.

The Director of Student Development and Activities shall be responsible for convening the committee to review applications and recording decisions. Applications should aim to be processed within one week of submission. The committee shall decide which action to take based on consensus, failing that a majority vote.

Application criteria:

  • Applicants must be either an Affiliated Society, or a Postgraduate Academic Representative. 
  • Applicants may only request funding to support an event or series of events within the same calendar year as the application (1st July-30th June)
  • The event(s) must in some way be aimed at increasing postgraduate engagement within an affiliated society or benefit part of the postgraduate community.
  • The event(s) cannot be related to academic representation.
  • The event(s) may be exclusive to postgraduate students.
  • The maximum amount that can be applied for is £250
  • Applicants must provide a risk assessment or proof of an approved risk assessment with their application.
  • The grant cannot be used to reimburse alcohol purchases. (This does not mean the event must be alcohol free

Grant claim process 

Applicants should be contacted within one week of applying. If successful the grant can be claimed by presenting purchase receipts or invoices associated with the event to the Students Association Cash Office. The Cash Office may also pay for expenses directly if emailed in advance of the event with an invoice. The grant cannot be used to reimburse alcohol purchases (This does not mean the event must be alcohol free).
