Accommodation

We exist to help all students in private flats or halls of residence with any problems they might encounter during their time in St Andrews.

Check the Support Hub for more housing info.

Your Accommodation Officer represents students on all things accommodation to the Students’ Association and the university. They are supported by a committee of wonderful volunteers, each taking on a specific role to support students and the committee.

The accommodation subcommittee of the Students’ Association is part of the Student Representative Council. This group sets the agenda for campaigning and lobbying with local and national politics, and with the university. Part of the Accommodation Officer's job is to raise student concerns so they can be addressed by the Association. The committee is managed by the President of Community & Wellbeing.

The subcommittee facilitates the Senior Student Forum representing students in halls and attends the letting agents' meeting representing students in private accommodation in and around St. Andrews. The subcommittee also publishes a yearly guide to finding housing as a student, the How to Rent guide. Around this they organise accommodation week, which is at the end of the first semester. This includes talks and Q&As, a letting fayre, and talks in the halls of residence.

While the subcommittee doesn’t handle the logistics of halls or private letting, they have a wealth of experience, and will be able to guide you to the right resources. The subcommittee aims to provide as much information as possible to St Andreans, and empower them to make good choices. The Accommodation Officer can also use their unique position as an elected officer of the Union to pressure the University into listening to student voices.

Senior Students

Each University hall of residence has a Senior Student, who is elected annually from the returning students and is chair of the hall committee. Together with other elected hall committee members, Senior Students are responsible for organising a range of social events and activities for hall residents.

All Senior Students meet together with the President of Wellbeing & Community and the SRC Accommodation Officer every month at the Senior Students' Forum.
