Education Committee

Education Committee

The Education Committee represents student opinion on education-related issues. The Committee is chaired by the two Faculty Presidents. The body of the committee is made up of the 30 School and Department Presidents who lead academic representation in each part of the University. It meets bi-weekly and its meeting minutes are uploaded for the student body to access.

What sort of issues are discussed at Education Committee?

  • University policies/processes: such as extension policies, transcript costs, year-abroad fees, assessments, AI Policy.
  • University-wide Problems: Are the issues that are happening in your school also happening in other schools? Coursework feedback delays, slow staff replies to emails, etc.
  • Support for Representatives: For example, How can I motivate my class reps? What do you put in your weekly emails?

The Committee routinely invite university staff to attend and discuss a wide range of education related issues.

UAF

Alongside the Education Committee and Forum, the Union hosts the Undergraduate Academic Forum once a semester. UAF is a meeting between EduCom and senior university staff, such as the Dean of Learning and Teaching and the Proctor, to discuss the key issues affecting the student body.

UAF is a crucial forum for expressing the mood and opinion of the student body to senior staff. It is chaired by the President of Education who will request agenda items from School/Department Presidents to present to staff attendees.

Issues that have been resolved at UAF in recent years: a new extension policy in instances of grief, the abolition of the Pulse Surveys, the standardisation of module handbooks, and a requirement for lecture recordings.

The meeting minutes are publicly available and can be found here.
