The Sallies quad at night; this is where the race begins!
Race2 (Charity Hitchhike)

Race2 is the original St Andrews Charity Hitchhike! Fully student run and entirely in aid of the Charities Campaign's three nominated charities.

History

Race2 was started by the Charities Campaign in the early 90s as an exciting way to raise more funds for the selected charities. For oer a decade, the race was simply called 'Race 2 Paris' and used the same end location. Starting in the noughties, the committee decided to expand the scope and since then, races have finished all across the European mainland! Take a look at some of our most recent destinations:

Year Destination
2021 *cancelled due to COVID-19*

2026 Schedule

  • Destination Reveal night usually takes place early in Semester One. This year it took place on 09 October 2025, and included loads of important safety information and a pub quiz afterward!
  • Sign-ups will begin in-person on the 2nd November at 14:30 in Beacon Bar. There are only 200 racer places, so be sure to come early to avoid disappointment!
  • The race will begin on the 1st March in the early morning. Racers will meet in Sallies Quad for a group photo before being bussed to a surprise city in Scotland to begin the journey.
  • All groups must check-in with the Safety Team at least every four hours throughout the race (eight hours if sleeping). More information about the Safety Team will soon be available below.
  • The race will conclude in Madrid on the 5th of March with an awards ceremony; racers will usually fly back via Edinburgh together, but can stay in Madrid or travel onward at their pleasure.
