Reclaim the Night is a national event, to raise awareness around violence against women, and to take back the hours of darkness when we are usually told to stay indoors to keep ourselves safe. The very first Reclaim the Night protest was held in Leeds in 1977, following high-profile lethal violence against women, and the authorities telling women to stay home at nighttime. This has expanded over the decades, with marches taking place across the UK and internationally. We have chosen the 24th of November for our march as this is the night before the international 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which runs from 25th November to 10th December.

Our Reclaim the Night in St Andrews focuses on sex and gender based violence, acknowledging that anyone can be subjected to this form of violence, regardless of gender. We invite anyone to march with us to show solidarity with survivors, and show each other the good we can do when our community joins together.

We will be hosting a sign-making workshop from 15:00-17:00 in the Large Rehearsal Room. Please meet in the Union Piazza at 17:15, for the march to begin at 17:30. The march will be followed by a speaker event in the Large Rehearsal Room.
