We’d like to announce the retirement of Iain Cupples, HR and Advocacy Manager at the Students’ Association.

After an extensive and distinguished career spanning over 25 years, Iain has made the decision to take early retirement. He has been on long-term absence following a cancer diagnosis and is focusing on his treatment, health, and wellbeing.

Much of Iain’s work at the Union took place behind the scenes, but his impact has been immense. He has supported hundreds - if not thousands - of students through some of the most challenging times in their university journeys, offering advice and guidance on matters such as academic appeals, accommodation, and welfare.

Iain has played a key role in running elections, managing policy and student conduct matters, and mentoring Sabbatical Officers, volunteers, and interns. He has also supported Heads of Departments in managing their teams and has been the go-to expert for employment law, charity law, and a wide range of other legal and procedural matters.

Not only this, Iain has been Secretary to the Board, and has contributed significantly to Board-level discussions, offering trusted guidance to Trustees and ensuring the accurate application of Association Laws.

On behalf of the Students’ Association Board, Sabbatical Officers, Management Team, and all Union staff, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Iain for everything he has done for the Association, and we wish him well with his treatment.
