Every August, Edinburgh becomes the world's stage. Among the thousands of performers, artists and creators descending on the Scottish capital are students, alumni and creatives from St Andrews, bringing with them original writing, classic theatre, musical comedy, improvisation and ambitious new work.
The Edinburgh Fringe has long been a proving ground for St Andrews performers, with student productions regularly transferring from campus or being created specifically for the festival. This year is no exception, with societies and independent companies showcasing the breadth of creativity that makes St Andrews one of Scotland's most vibrant student arts communities.
Whether you're planning a day trip to Edinburgh, supporting friends and classmates, or simply looking to discover something new, here's your guide to the St Andrews productions appearing at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
St Andrews at the Edinburgh Fringe 2026
From intimate new writing to gothic horror, courtroom comedy to late-night improvisation, this year's programme demonstrates the remarkable range of theatre being produced by the St Andrews community.
The festival begins on 5 August with Moth and Dog Are Dying to Get Out, an original production from the St Andrews Art Theatre, running throughout most of the Fringe at the Pleasance Dome. Later that week, audiences can also catch the new play Other People, the dark comedy Hard Pill, and Father, Away She Goes, an independent production appearing as part of Zoo Festival.
The Mermaids Society once again have a strong presence at the Fringe with three productions across August. Carmilla brings the classic gothic novella to Greenside from 10–15 August, before Crash Course takes over the same venue the following week. The society rounds off its Fringe season with The Next Chapter, a new short-form production running during the festival's final week.
For lovers of comedy, Blind Mirth returns with Improv with a Twist, promising a different show every night through audience suggestions and unpredictable challenges.
Those looking for something on a larger scale can experience The Tears of Nerakhis, presented by Studio Platero Society, while the Gilbert & Sullivan Society brings the comic operetta Trial By Jury to Paradise in Augustines.
Whether you're interested in supporting fellow students, discovering the next breakout playwright, or simply enjoying a day at the world's largest arts festival, there's no shortage of St Andrews talent to see this August!
