In November 2012, students at the University of St Andrews were asked: "Should the University of St Andrews Students' Association become a member of the National Union of Students?"

Of 2353 votes cast, 1763 students voted No and 590 students voted Yes.  As a result, the University St Andrews Students' Association did not affiliate with the National Union of Students.
