Psychology & Neuroscience School President

Hi there! My name is Natalia, and I’m your Psychology and Neuroscience School President for the academic year 2019-20.

Hi there! My name is Natalia, and I’m your Psychology and Neuroscience School President for the academic year 2019-20.

I am originally from St Petersburg, Russia, but I have lived in the United States for the majority of my life—which explains my slightly odd accent. When I joined the School of Psychology and Neuroscience, I was startled by how passionate, driven, and involved the student body was. I am also continuously amazed by how dedicated our academic staff are to ensuring that our time here is rewarding, productive, and enjoyable. Not only was I given support in organising a student conference and other initiatives during my time here so far, but I also had the incredibly valuable opportunity to work as a research assistant in a variety of projects. I chose to run for the position of School President because I wanted to give back to the School that has already given me so much. It’s an honour to be able to represent you this year!

As School President, my primary role will be to serve as a bridge between students and academic staff, especially when it comes to representing student interests and ensuring that feedback is taken onboard. I am also here to help anyone who has questions, comments, or concerns regarding the way that we do things in the School—feel free to contact me at psychpresident@st-andrews.ac.uk or nz28@st-andrews.ac.uk, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

This year, I will focus on planning tons of exciting events, as well as making the research assistantship application process more transparent for students. I will also strive to arrange talks and workshops centring around the topic of life after university—whether that means pursuing postgraduate study or seeking employment, we should all feel prepared.

There are plenty of ways for you to get involved in the School. Joining one of our societies, becoming a class rep, or independently organising events is always a good place to start. Remember to like the Psychology & Neuroscience Students, University of St Andrews page on Facebook to stay updated, or follow our department on Twitter @st_psy.

I hope you have an incredible year, and I look forward to meeting you!
