Hello! My name is Amy and I am your Modern Languages School President for 2018/19!
I am from Kilmacolm, near Glasgow, and I am going into my fifth year of studying German, Russian and Spanish. I absolutely love the School of Modern Languages; it is so unique with its eight different departments and wide variety of degree combinations. The range of language societies and small language groups make us a very close-knit and sociable School and I’m very excited to work on strengthening our community this year!
Working together with the Modern Language Conveners, my role as School President is to serve as a link between the student body and the University staff and to make sure that all feedback, ideas or issues are represented and properly addressed. If you have any suggestions, questions or concerns at any point in the year, you can get in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org or at email@example.com and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I’ll also be setting up a weekly ‘surgery hour’, where you are very welcome to come and speak to me in person.
My main focuses this year will be on improving the Year Abroad experience, increasing the number of careers events taking place and improving links between Honours and Sub-Honours year groups, so keep an eye out for updates in the weekly emails and events happening throughout the year!
There are lots of ways to become more involved in the life of the School, whether through coming along to one of the many events run by the language societies, performing in a play or becoming a Class Representative in the September elections. I recommend liking the St Andrews Modern Languages Facebook page to keep up to date with all the goings-on!
I hope you have a fantastic year studying in the School of Modern Languages and I look forward to meeting you at some point!
