The Mathematics and Statistics School President for 2019/20 is Beth Barlow.

Hi, I’m Beth and I am from Perthshire, in Scotland. This year will be my final year in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. It has been a pleasure to be your class rep for the past two years, as well as to introduce our very successful mentoring scheme.

In my role as President this year, I plan to organise more networking events, for example ‘cheese and wine’ evenings with medium-sized companies which often do not have the same exposure as large firms such as the ‘Big Four’. I would aim to invite representatives from these companies to talk directly with students.

I also would like to digitalise the mid-semester survey system which I believe will be more efficient and environmentally friendly. This will initially be tested on a trial basis, so it would be brilliant if everyone took part so we can show that it works!

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns regarding the School of Mathematics and Statistics - I would be more than happy to hear your thoughts. You can contact me by email at mathspresident@st-andrews.ac.uk

I hope you have a great year studying maths, and I look forward to meeting all of you! I am also very much looking forward to working alongside our new class reps to enhance the student experience in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and make sure we remain in the top three maths departments in the UK!
