Hi, I’m Andrew and I’m President of the School of Mathematics and Statistics for the 2017/18 academic year.
I’m a final year direct entry MMath student from Linlithgow, near Edinburgh, whose interests lie mainly in pure mathematics and its applications.
Mathematics can be challenging, and this is evident given the number of unsolved problems in the field. Whether you’re taking your first course in real analysis, or pushing towards publishing new work, you will likely encounter obstacles that aren’t easy to overcome. It’s my job to ensure every student’s voice is heard, and that your treatment in the school is as fair as it possibly can be. I will work closely with the staff, and your elected class reps, to ensure this happens.
The student voice can be a very powerful one: you can really make a difference in the school! If you have any ideas you would like to discuss with me, or initiatives you would like to pursue, then please get in touch.
I will send out details about what’s going on in the school in weekly emails, and also post on the Maths and Stats 2017/18 Facebook group.
I look forward to working with you all this year!
