Hi! My name is Elisa, I am a fourth year Film Studies student and I am the Film Studies School President for 2019/20.
I’m originally from Porto Alegre, a city in the southernmost region of Brazil, but for the past few years I have felt right at home at the Film Department. The close-knit community brings together students and staff with incredibly diverse backgrounds and interests and offers amazing opportunities to explore your interests in depth while also learning about brand new topics. There is also a wide range of events to get involved with, from societies and screenings to guest speakers and filmmaking festivals (I particularly encourage all students and film enthusiasts to check out the Filmmakers’ Society and the Film Society for their year-round events as well as keeping an eye out for the department’s events such as the filmmaking festival, The 60 Hour Film Blitz!).
In my capacity as School President, I aim to make sure new and returning students feel represented and welcome to participate in this community. By ensuring that we maintain strong communication avenues we can strengthen our ability to gather and respond to feedback and improve student experience year-round. Furthermore, I want to make sure students are as comfortable thinking about their careers as they are in their studies. I will be working to put together career events and workshops to help students identify employment opportunities and build networks, hopefully collaborating with my fellow School Presidents in the process.
