drink spiking

Drinks can be spiked at any time and in any company. There is no such thing as being completely safe.  Drink spiking can be colourless, odorless and undetectable.  However, if you feel bad unexpectedly, don't just dismiss it as being drunk really quickly, and make sure that you are safe: remember it happens to men as well as women.
Top tips to stay safe.
  1. Go out in a group and have a 'sober' friend who can look after you.
  2. Keep your drinks with you at all times.
  3. Don't drink anything that has been left unattended.
  4. Don't accept drinks from strangers.
  5. Plan how to get home at the end of the night.
  6. Make sure that someone knows where you are and what time you are expected home.
  7. Keep an eye on your friends to make sure they're okay.
Alcohol affects your actions and your reactions as well as your ability to be alert. Stay aware of what is going on around you and keep away from situations that you do not feel comfortable with.  St Andrews is a small and friendly town; this does not mean you should let your guard down completely.
