We are the primary entertainments venue for St Andrews’ students, and support a thriving student activities scene with over 140 affiliated societies.

The University of St Andrews Students’ Association is committed to promoting diversity and equality for all and welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds. We particularly aim to include perspectives from candidates with disabilities, from BAME backgrounds, and those with diverse sexualities or marginalised gender identities.

Your role

The Student Councils form the heart of the representative structures of the Students’ Association, allowing students elected by their peers to form and implement policy over the entire scope of our activities. We are a democratic, student-led organisation and this is fundamental to our mission.

Your role will be to deal with administrative and practical issues to make sure Councils are open and accountable to members. Working under the HR Manager and with full-time staff and elected officers, you’ll ensure accurate minutes are published on our website, and help the Chair with circulating agendas and papers and publicising meetings. But you’ll also go further and work with our elections team on administering and advertising the annual elections. From nominations to campaigns through to voting and reporting results, you’ll be involved in this process from day one, a chance to see the democratic process up close and learn the ins and outs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities of Post-holder

  1. Provide administrative support to student councils and the Executive Committee by writing minutes from recorded meetings to specifications set by the Chair and HR Manager. This will include drawing out action points and communicating these to elected representatives, ensuring clarity of information, and uploading minutes to our website in a timely manner.
  2. Support in expanding the visibility of the work of student councils by identifying and utilising effective communication channels for publicising meetings, minutes and papers to the wider student body.
  3. Carry out tasks associated with the annual elections including publicity at all stages from nominations to results, communications with voters, prospective nominees and candidates, facilitating the work of the internal elections team and following up on actions as required.
