The University of St Andrews Students’ Association sits at the heart of the Campus - recently voted as No. 1 University in the UK and with a reputation to protect. Our Bar Operation forms an intrinsic part of the Student Experience and with over 9,000 members, we provide a range of services including advice, representation, catering and four bars. Our Bars Team lead on all large-scale events, functions and an array of activities to support the student body. We are the primary entertainments venue for St Andrews’ students, and support a thriving student scene with over 140 affiliated societies.

Your role

Working under the direction of the Bars Manager and Assistant Bars Manager, you will help to contribute to an outstanding experience for our members in our four main bars including outside events. Through effective supervision of our team of casual staff, you’ll ensure we maintain a high standard of service and a highly efficient bars operation throughout the year. Both evening and day work will be required. 

Description of Duties

 

General

  • Supervise and motivate staff to maintain a high standard of service and the efficient running of the bar operation.
  • Ensure appropriate stock and staffing is maintained during shift, within agreed levels from the Bars Management team.
  • Allocate bar staff duties for shift to effectively achieve departmental objectives.
  • Assist the Bars Management Team in all areas of external bar operations.
  • Support the Bars Management team in identifying staff training needs.
  • Participate in routine training of casual staff under the direction of the Bars Manager.

 

Compliance

  • Under the direction of the Bars Management team, ensure compliance with health and safety obligations.
  • Maintain clean and safe cellars and stock rooms and to ensure beer pipes are cleaned as required (at least fortnightly).
  • Ensure adherence to all current licensing regulations and any other applicable legal requirements within the scope of the role.
  • Operate agreed stock control procedures, cash reconciliation and replenishing floats for tills.
  • Ensure the Bar Operation works within relevant parameters of the Premises Licence and Operating Plan. 

 

 

Qualifications/Experience

 

This post will suit someone who has significant bar experience with a sound background in bar and cellar supervision

Experience in Scottish licensed trade

 

Experience in both bar and club environments
