An inclusive community for swing dancers of all levels with weekly classes, practice sessions and socials.
Our society centres around a group of dances that developed alongside the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s to 1940s. Dances such as Lindy Hop and Charleston began in African American communities and were largely vernacular. Today, our society is one of a multitude of international communities celebrating this improvised, expressive and playful dance form. We offer weekly classes open to all levels, from complete beginners to more experienced dancers (no partner needed), to help build a vocabulary of moves that can be used in social improvisation. Most importantly, we hold weekly socials and practice sessions that hold true to the vernacular spirit of swing: sharing lively, improptu dances with new and old friends in a space where people can be their authentic selves.
We are here solely for The University of St Andrews students. We
are here to make the student experience as strong as it can be,
provide services you need and to represent your views to the
University and beyond. We are a charity registered in Scotland and
we are mostly volunteers, from the members of the SRC and SSC to
the Ents Crew who run Union events, all the society committee
members to the Trustees of our Board.
