Design & Print Guidelines

To produce the best final product, your publication should fit within certain simple design criteria; these are set out below. If you want the highest quality with the minimum of fuss, we encourage you to follow these. Alternatively, if you haven’t already started designing your document, you may want to check out the Design Team, who offer a free and professional design service.

Document Bleed and Margin

The following diagram illustrates what document bleed and margins are:

  • Bleed – We require a 3mm bleed. The bleed area should be filled with a continuation of background colour/background image, but not any text/page numbers/page content.
  • Margin – this should be set in at least 3mm from the document edge. All text and content, except that which extends into the bleed zone, should be contained within the confines of this margin.

Conforming to bleed and margin requirements means that none of your text will be lost on document trimming. Overall, your document will look better. These pre-requisites are needed for flyers, booklets, posters etc. To see pricing for these items, check out our Services and Prices page.

Images

  1. For printing, Images and graphics should be of at least 300dpi.
  2. DON’T, under any circumstances use photos directly taken from FaceBook. Really! FaceBook heavily reduces image quality and size, so if printed, they look rubbish. If you want to use am image from FaceBook, speak to the original uplaoder to get an original copy - you should really be getting their permission anyway!

Booklets

Booklets should be sent to us as one document, with multiple single-pages (i.e. don’t put pages into 2-page spreads!). Start with the cover, then the inside cover, then the first page, and so on. The printing equipment we use will automatically combine these single pages to form a booklet, so you don’t have to.
