learning resources
The University has a wealth of resources available to you for your academic work and most other things that you might be interested in. It’s surprising actually just how much the library can provide in the way of resources - not only books, journals and a huge host of electronic resources but extensive special collections ranging from the papal bull that founded the University to a large collection of photographs from the dawn of photography to modern day. The library is here to help you and is an invaluable tool
for your time at University.
They have a tutorial on their website which helps you find some of their resources - click here to find out more.
The library has a great blog they keep up to date as they add new electronic resources or just to remind you of what’s available. They also venture into social media with a Facebook page and a twitter account.
The staff are really here to help. If you’re stuck with something either ask at the main desk or contact a member of the academic liaison librarian team - they are charged with working with students and staff to ensure the resources needed are available and to help people in the best use of these resources. There is an academic liaison librarian for arts & divinity, science & medicine and the social sciences. Find out who to contact here
SALTIRE
The other department which can be really useful is SALTIRE, a very patriotic name for the department which can provide help with a range of skills including maths and English skills. This sounds almost slightly patronising but it’s not. They can be great at helping with those statistics you just can’t get your head around or how to lay out the lab report you’ve been putting off starting as you just don’t know where to start.
SALTIRE also runs the SOAR (Student online academic resources) course available through Moodle. This has some good information and guides on issues such as academic integrity and misconduct, and plagiarism and referencing.
