Moving out may seem very far away when you've just moved in.
BUT in order to prove that you didn't spill that red wine on the carpet, or break that bedside table, you do need photographic evidence.
In fact, we think it's so important, that we've arranged for you to be able to email us copies of your photos and we'll store them all year for you. Therefore if you end up in a sticky situation with your landlord at the end of your tenancy, we can help out.
What do I need to do?
1. Photograph anything that isn't perfect. It might look fine to you, but if you think there's the smallest chance you could be picked up on it, take a photograph just in case. This includes marks on walls, chips in plates, cigarette burns or small stains on carpets, chipped paint on doors, damaged or marked furniture and dirt marks.
Your flat should be clean when you move in, but if it isn't, take photos before cleaning and send them to your landlord/estate agents.
2. Send the photos, along with your name and landlord to srcaccommodation@st-andrews.ac.uk as soon as you move in.
Anything else?
If you are having more serious problems, we employ an accommodation advocate, Eleanor, who is there to provide advice on any issues you might be having. Her email is ef41@st-andrews.ac.uk.
