I know what your thinking, they've stolen the opening credits to EastEnders, and then ingeniously changed them for their own cause.... And you'd be right.
BUT
What a cause it is...
So whats the deal?
On the 2nd June 2008 four students from the University of St Andrews will pedalo, (thats right, the little boat with the pedals normally found on pleasure beaches) 130 miles down the Thames from Oxford (which you can't even see on the photo above) to Greenwich. At a cruising speed of 2mph thats a long ruddy way (5 and a half London marathons to be precise!).
Why?
The STAAG crew are not on any old student jolly. They are out on a mission to raise mega amounts of money for a charity very close to their hearts - The Alzheimer's Society. Over 700,000 people in the UK have dementia -more than half have Alzheimer's disease. Dementia affects one in 20 people over the age of 65 and one in five over the age of 80. If you would like to know more please click below and visit the Alzheimer's Society Website.
How can you help?
They are trying to raise much needed funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Society so the best way to help them is by clicking on the button below and sponsoring them! Although if you know of any good pubs on the Thames between Oxford and London then that would be much appreciated too!

So who are we? Why not Click Here to meet the four willing adventurers?
Who we need to Thank!
We are greatly indebted to Oxford Rivers Cruises for allowing us to comandeer their pedalo and navigate it down the treacherous waters of the Thames.
We should also thank the University of St. Andrews Student Association for all their help and Support as well as the people at the Alzheimer's Society.
