SD Society Meeting Minutes
Monday 21st April 2008

SASI Tuesday 29th April 10:30 Gateway upstairs to Discuss Plans for next year with Jan Bebbington- all welcome
ACTIONS
-everyone design a new logo for clothing etc
-Mariella to find/ confirm SAEF speaker
-Polly to speak to Publicity at union and discuss jumpers
-Rebecca to find a venue for meetings next year
-Dylan and Michael meeting about website
-everyone on committee should check emails each week
-Paddy to send accounts 14th May
-Sponsorship- Dylan to ask Jan Bebbington for advice, Nicola and Linnea to create a shortlist of companies to approach
-BBQ at freshers we need to book garden and make sure a notice is put in the freshers event leaflet
-Polly to email publicity events
DISCUSSIONS
-Buy Brian a Bike
There is already a bike week for staff therefore the publicity officer has a lack of support for this event –may not go ahead
-Darfur movie- no news
-SAEF- ST Andrews Economic Forum
Climate change forum need a speaker Mariella was to find a speaker thought about John Claus
-Publicity
Polly going to the union and maybe the Saint
-Possible venue for next year- Drouthies Rebecca is to contact
-Dylan is meeting Reheema on May the 8th
-Sarah McCusker has £700 could fund some SD events
-SD Management class planning a demonstration packaging at Tescos perhaps we could combine our ideas about plastic bags with them
-Dylan has made progress with the website had discussions with Oli Walker
Can set up a website with the student association could be accessed from any university computer, possibly up and running this week

Michael and Dylan were meeting on Tues (22nd) to work on this
-Louisa had found out about last years jumpers- were done through the union perhaps speak to Oli Markison take them out logo design
Last year it was around £22 per hoodie- could make them fair trade hoodies
Polly is going to try contact the union General office or Design
-We have 500 bags left need to think about how to shift them
-Biology society invited us to a social Sunday the 11th of May trip to the Isle of Mey buses leave St Andrews at 10 am the cost of the trip is £20 we declined.
-emails everyone is to check society emails once a week to keep up to date
-the first SD students to gradate will be doing so this year- discussed planning a party for them, thought there may already be one planned
-14th of May last years accounts and 2 copies of the minutes? Need to be sent to the student association Dylan to ask Paddy to do this

-Freshers Fair BBQ
We need to have a stall at the freshers fair, the weekend before class
Posters need to be designed
Need to enter the BBQ in the unions booklet of freshers events
Book the Mansfield as location of the BBQ- need to ask Paddy who to contact about booking
-Membership fees last year they were £3
We need how to work out how to encourage people to pay this year- maybe a second event a few weeks later and ask people to pay up
Perhaps have the BBQ after the freshers fair people that pay then get a discount at BBQ somehow or a free bag?
-Veg Soc want to host an event with us- maybe cook for us at an event
Dylan recommended pillars of Hercules and he emailed a reply
-Template email response when asked to publicise events for other societies
Ask them how there event relates to SD?, How could they make it more sustainable?
Push our agenda before we give them our support
Polly was to write a draft of this letter
-Susan Horseman asked for our help with end of year recycling of clothing, books etc
By manning a recycling point at the Halls of Residence
Louisa mentioned the possibility of having a central point eg at the Union for students in flats etc
-Bikes are collected at the end of the year- plans to repair them
Could we help with this? Perhaps sell them at our BBQ cheaply
They would probably need checked over first legal implications?
Possibly the bike shop or cycling society could help?
Michael was to email Susan Horsman, the cycling society, spokes and Daniel Docherty(bike repair man)
-Bake sale for AAS to help fund their Palestinian debate we would bake the cakes etc and their society would sell them
Polly was to email the president
-Mariella has spoken to Lumsden and KK about collaborating with their events next year perhaps with SD education projects- we need to write them a letter
Would SD have a requirement of voluntary community service of its members?
Goals for next year to be discussed at a meeting next week in Drouthies
Eg having 2 speakers per semester
-raise the society’s profile
Having a certain number of paid members eg 25 or 50?
