societies
St Andrews is home to more than 140 societies, so there's sure to be sometthing to suit everyone, and they're a great way to meet new people and develop new skills.
Every society needs support - funding, advice, new ideas and enthusiasm. This is where you come in.
The Union's societies team helps with finance, training, and elections, and also decides how to allocate a £30,000 budget. The financial know-how you'll pick up along the way is invaluable, as is the experience of helping so many people turn their aspirations into reality.
The following positions are up for election on 18.03.2011:
As SSC Societies Officer, you lead the Committee that runs the 130+ student societies that we have at the Union. From budgeting to affiliating new societies you'll be involed in all the main decisions of the Societies Committee and also have responsibilities for ensuring that all societies operate responsibly and have the facilities and resources they need to function properly.
As SSC Member for Societies Grants, you will be responsible for all financial elements of the Societies (and you will be given proper training). From managing budgets to giving training sessions, you will work closely with the staff in the Cash Office to ensure that Societies recieve a fair slice of the budget as well as making sure that they operate with an appropriate sense of fiscal responsibility.
The SSC Member for Societies Elections is responsible for overseeing the democratic running of all our societies. From checking over constitutions, answering questions about AGMs and attending many of them, you will lead a team to ensure that every society election is run fairly and appropriately.
