education

The Union's education team exists to protect and improve the quality of teaching for every student in St Andrews. Whether you're an arts, science, divinity or medicine student, the team is here to help resolve any problems. We also pay particular attention to the library and run the book sale, academic misconduct workshops and help class reps.

SRC Education Officer

A new position this year, the Education Officer will take over the duties of the Library and Learning Representative, but will also work with the DoRep and School Presidents on various academic issues.

We finally have a shiny new Library, but the good work is far from over - next year's rep will play a key role in steering the library in the direction students want, whether that involves buying more editions of key undergraduate textbooks, or working for longer opening hours in departmental libraries. They will also sit on SLUG - the student library user group.

The Education officer will also be the main link between the School Presidents and the SRC, and will help to support their activities, not least promote the Class Rep elections early in first semester.

Most importantly however, as the Education Officer is a new role, it can be what you make it. Got better ideas than the above? Go for it.

Feel free to contact Amanda (dorep@) if you'd like to chat about this position.

Arts/Divinity Senate Representative

As one of just four student members (the others being the Science/Medicine Rep, Postgraduate President and Students’ Association President) of the Senatus Academicus - the highest and most ancient academic body within the University - this position holds a fair degree of responsibility. The Senatus Academicus (or University Senate) is responsible for all academic matters within the University, in particular for regulating teaching, monitoring academic standards and enhancing the wider academic student experience. In view of the size of its membership, Senate devolves most of its key business to a more streamlined body called Academic Council. As well as the four student representatives, Academic Council comprises all Heads of Schools, the Deans of Faculty and academic members of the Principal's Office. The Principal of the University, in her role as the President of Senate, is the Chair of Academic Council. Academic Council meets twice a semester and it will be your role to represent the views and needs of the students within the faculties of Arts and Divinity at these meetings.

As a valuable member of the Students' Association Education team, chaired by the Director of Representation, it will also be your responsibility to attend meetings of the SRC every fortnight, and you will have the opportunity to get involved in education campaigns reaching out to the student body on issues such as feedback.
