The Union's education team exists to protect and improve the quality of teaching for every student in St Andrews. Whether you're an arts, science, divinity or medicine student, the team is here to help resolve any problems. We also pay particular attention to the library and run the book sale, academic misconduct workshops and help class reps.

The following positions are up for election on 18.03.2011:

SRC Member for Library and Learning Resources

With the library undergoing a significant redevelopment to the tune of £7 million over the next two summers, it will be your responsibility (alongside the Director of Representation) to attend meetings of the Library Working Group with members of library staff and the architects. This will be your opportunity to give input and feedback into the current plans for redevelopment - including paint colours, carpet (no more mustard!) and furniture.

With the recent announcement of a £4 million investment in the library collection, you will also be able to lobby the University to spend this money on key undergraduate texts, and online resources, as well as research material.

Aside from the redevelopment, you will also be one of the key points of contact for the library on issues such as the second hand book shop, opening hours, IT facilities and online resources, and communication with the student body.

Arts/Divinity Senate Representative

As one of just four student members of the Senatus Academicus - the highest, and most ancient, academic body within the University - it will be up to you to represent the needs of students within the faculties of Arts and Divinity. The Senate meets once every semester in a body called Academic Council, which is made up of Heads of Schools and members of the Principal's Office, who manage the running and governance of the University.

As a valuable member of the Students' Association Education team, chaired by the Director of Representation, it will also be your responsibility to attend meetings of the SRC every fortnight, and you will have the opportunity to get involved in education campaigns reaching out to the student body on issues such as feedback.

Science/Medicine Senate Representative

As one of just four student members of the Senatus Academicus - the highest, and most ancient, academic body within the University - it will be up to you to represent the needs of students within the faculties of Science and Medicine.

If you are interested in either of these positions, don't hesitate to talk to Siena on dorep@st-andrews.ac.uk, or set up an appointment to chat to her in person.
