debates
Gaudeamus to the maximus.
The University of St Andrews Union Debating Society: the oldest, and some would say finest, debating society of its kind in the world. Held in the actual meeting place of the pre-1707 Parliament of Scotland, the society regularly draws guest speakers from all over the country and sometimes even further afield.
To pull off this level of debate week on week, the society needs a President with the knowledge and foresight to think of the captivating speakers that make the society's reputation and to plan in advance.
With a budget far smaller than that of similar societies elsewhere in Britain, a bit of ingenuity and entrepreneurship won't go amiss. In addition to planning the weekly debates, you'll also need to drive the society to perform at a high level competitively.
If you think you're up to the challenge, put yourself forward for election as SSC Debates Officer on 18.03.2011.
