Public Debates

Thursdays, 7:30 for 8pm, Lower Parliament Hall

Public Debates are held every week during term time in Lower Parliament Hall on South Street, usually on Thursdays (though occasionally other days). If you've bought a gown, debates are an excellent opportunity to wear it. Jeans and black tie are equally welcome although some debates, like our annual Parliamentary debate are formal. Everyone is encouraged to come, enjoy a glass of port and the Emergency debate beforehand.

The terms & traditions page offers an idea of what to expect. For a full listing of weekly debates see this semester's term card.

Emergency Debates

Thursdays, 7:00pm, Lower Parliament Hall

Emergency debates are more informal than the Public Debates that follow. They generally focus on the local, national and international events of the week. We encourage a relaxed atmosphere where people can come and go as they please and anyone can speak from the dispatch boxes. Emergency debates are a good way of articulating how you feel about current events. If you have an idea for an Emergency debate please contact the Sergeant at Arms by the Tuesday of that week.
