► Society FAQs

This section should cover most things you haven't been able to find elsewhere on the societies portal. In case we've missed something, drop us an e-mail and we'll try and answer whatever query you may have.

  • Q: I've missed the societies fayre, can I still join a club or society?

Yes of course you can! Use the societies index to find the club or society you'd like to join (or just have a browse!) and then click on the name of the society to find a contact e-mail address. Get in touch and the society should add you to their mailing list.

  • Q: I want to get on a subcommittee's e-mail list to find out whats going on, how do I do that?

The subcommittee page has all of the subcommittee emails, and just drop them an email and they'll let you know when their next meeting is and put you on their email list.

  • Q: Charitable Law is confusing me and I'm not sure what my society can/can't do. Help!

If in any doubt at all please drop Becca the Societies Officer an email at socs@st-andrews.ac.uk, and she will be more than willing to give you any advice, or answer any questions you may have.

  • Q: I want to throw a society event on university property. How do I book a venue?

Events held on University property have to go through the Events Management Group. Contact Residential and Business Services either by popping in to 79 North St, or by e-mailing rbs@st-andrews.ac.uk who should be able to provide you with a form.

  • Q: Where can I get a copy of my society constitution?

The Societies Committee keeps copies of all society constitutions. You can get a copy from the societies officer by contacting her through socs@st-andrews.ac.uk

  • Q: All the old committee have graduated, and we no longer have access to the society bank account. Does that mean we can't affiliate?

Don't panic! All society bank accounts have two Association signatories on the mandate. You can contact the cash office on the first floor of the Students Association, and they'll be able to sieze control of the bank account from the former committee.
