1.0 Convenor’s Welcome

Dave says hello and ‘Hurray’ that RAG Week is over! He says it was a wonderful week, many people didn’t sleep or eat but everything went really well and some great events were put on. Dave hands over to Katie to give a breakdown of the week.

2.0             Exec Committee Updates

2.1             Katie- RAG Week Coordinator

Katie begins by telling everyone that there will be a RAG Week celebration party at 9pm this Friday in the Westport. She wants to say her thanks to everyone who helped out and give awards and prizes to people- but also she wants to have a few congratulatory beverages!

Katie then goes on to list people who she would like to thank for all of the hard work they put in during RAG Week:

Sarah- for the Comedy Night, the Fashion Show and Collections.
Mhairi- for the amazing bop and her impromptu fashion show help. Clare- for counting of all the money. Will- for crazy and successful ideas! Karlie and Nic- For standing at the stall all week.
Dave- for keeping Katie strong in the lower points of the week.
Elizabeth- for her marvellous Fashion Show and for just getting on with it. Lydia, Jenny and Lindsay- for the bingotastic night which raised loads of money. Alison- for her expert handling of Mr St Andrews. Ben N- for being just a wonderful man! Tom Hobbs- for organising LOST and for being a lovely man! Phillipa, Cassie, Sarah- for loads of volunteering help. Katie Oldfield, Georgina, Fiona and Craig- for all of their volunteering help, and Will, Kathryn and Charlie- for getting all of the sponsorship prizes.

Dave then proceeds to invite everyone in the room to make any comments about RAG Week. Many people praise the week. Elizabeth mentions that a tech-coordinator would be helpful for next year. Everyone thought the colour purple for advertising and t-shirts worked really well. Lydia remarks how for such little output as £50 the Bingo night raised over £2000! Will thought the toastie maker after the bop was a good idea. Others comment on the great atmosphere throughout the week and the strong presence of Rory McLion at all of the events - this helped to spread the word about the Charities Campaign.

Dave reminds everyone to pay for their RAG Week polo shirts and he lastly thanks Katie for all of her hard work and commitment during RAG Week. After a drum-roll Clare announces that the week as a whole made about £11,714.77 which is absolutely fantastic!

2.2             Tom- Hitchhike Co-ordinator

Tom announces that whilst there is still money coming in, so far Hitchhike to Amsterdam has raised £17,740! Dave stresses that this was the most successful Race to date, the biggest charity fundraising event at the University, and also the hike is now third in the world for raising so much money! Dave says he is very proud of the achievements of the Hitchhike since it began three years ago and he says that people now approach Dave and Tom for information and advice on holding them at other Universities and institutions. Tom reminds everyone that the final collection for Race sponsor money will be on Wednesday from 2-5 on the top floor of the Union.

2.3             Sarah- Collections Co-ordinator

Sarah starts off by thanking everyone who collected during RAG Week. She announces that all in all everyone raised £957.30, which is a great amount. Sarah says that there will be a collection this Saturday for MyelomaUK in Edinburgh. She passes around a sign-up sheet. She says time and means of transport will be confirmed later. Dave mentions that there will be more talk of future collections next week when some of the dates are finalised. He remarks that some may be lucky enough to get a ride with him in the minibus!

2.4             Karlie- Event Co-ordinator

Dave says that Karlie will be supervising an event that he would like newer members of the Campaign to get involved with. He explains that there is a lot of lost property from the Cloakroom and he would like to try to get rid of it through a jumble sale. He wants a group of people to organise, plan and run the event with Karlie’s help. He says it will be good practice for anyone wanting to get involved before going for positions at the AGM.
Karlie regrets that the planned bungee jump event has been rejected as potentially unsafe by the University. But Dave hopes that next year’s committee will be able to make it happen.
On a better note, Karlie says that a Charities social night is planned for Tuesday night the 11th of March. The theme is come as something that starts with the same letter as your name. She will remind everyone of dates and times at a later date.

3.0             Other Committee Members

3.1             Katherine- Cloakroom Co-ordinator

Katherine says that she has been approached by the New Hall ball committee about the possibility of doing a cloakroom for the ball. It will be on March 7th and all of the money will go to our 6 noms. A few people are interested but Dave would like to find out more details about it before getting volunteers for the night.

3.2             Alex Fun-Run Co-ordinator

Alex says he has been in talks with the Scottish athletics council about getting a permit for Run with Rory. He talks with Karlie about what happened last year. Dave suggests that a small committee of people be set up to help organise Run with Rory, meeting after the general meeting on Monday nights. He says that it will be discussed further next week.

4.0             Meeting Closed

Before finishing, Dave has a final few things to talk about. He reminds everyone of the upcoming AGM elections on the 21st of April. He says that anyone wanting to become Convenor of the Campaign needs to apply soon and put themselves forward though the Union elections as SSC Charities Officer. He strongly suggests that anyone thinking of doing this should speak to him first. He then goes on to list all of the other Exec positions that will be available and he encourages anyone interested to find more out about the job from the relevant person. He announces that we are thinking of dressing in black tie and gowns for the AGM!

Dave tells everyone about the ‘Charitable St Andrews’ event that is being organised by the Union and University on the 29th of April. He says it will be a great opportunity to get recognised for all of the great work we do and also boast of all of our amazing achievements! He says there will be wine and cheese on the night, but further details will follow nearer the time.

Finally, Dave says that soon we will need to be thinking about the AGM. He encourages everyone to sponsor charities who they would like to see nominated next year at our AGM.

On a final note, Clare reveals the total so far raised this year. She says it is £46,224! This is an extraordinary amount and Dave thanks everyone again for all of their hard work so far this year. He says he will see everyone next week.
