University of St Andrews Charities Campaign Committee Meeting Minutes

6.10.2008

1.0  Convenor’s Welcome

Will welcomes everyone to the meeting. The opening question is “cardigans on men?” This also gives everyone an opportunity to introduce him or herself.

Will then says that we made it into the press this week, as Rory abseiled down the Forth Road Bridge on Sunday. We also had an extreme collection on Saturday, but he is going to let Katie talk about it.

He then hands over to Craig.

2.0  Exec committee updates

2.1  Craig – treasurer

Craig first explains about deputy treasurer. And then asks for a drumroll…after lots of small change and time, £2224.55 was made on Saturday by the collection in Dundee, which was our biggest ever, even though it was baltically cold! He then says that we made a fab amount in freshers week - £1400. The sandcastle competition alone made £109.

2.2  Katie – collections coordinator

She firstly thanks everyone for the collection on Saturday. It was amazing. She says it was the first time they had to empty the tin on the street. Ellie was the star of Saturday, who made £208.72. She then says that everyone did amazingly well, and if they want to see their total, they should come and see her at the end. She also then says well done to Karen, who is also a charities star, having raised tonnes over freshers, collections and the abseil. There is also a collection not this Saturday but next Saturday, and then sends round a piece of paper for those who want to come.

2.3  Tiff – Events coordinator

Tiff explains that the abseil was amazing. She estimates that we made about £4370, and probably a bit extra, as some people raised more than needed. CHSS made about £45000 in total. She then explains planned events, such as the raisin auction of all the old sports equipment. There is also going to be something for starfields and a skydive, although we are not sure when it is going to be, and also a roller disco.

2.4  Mhairi – RAG week coordinator

She firstly says thank you to all that came to her RAG week meeting today. There are tonnes of committee positions available. The next meeting is on Wednesday at 4pm in the committee room. And 5pm for the fashion show. She then explains about the RAG week officer. They are going to interview people first. And she then explains that you should have been emailed about when your interview is.

2.5  Liz – Hitch coordinator

Liz says that there is a meeting for all those who are involved in hitch at 8.30 today in the committee room. It is going to be a fun and friendly meeting. She explains that the hostel is booked; there is a bar and a 2 hour-long happy hour!! There are also 200 beds, for all those who want stay afterwards. Alex then explains about the party in the Vic on the 30th October. He says that it is going to be a get to know each other social, and that we should all join the facebook group – the event is called ‘get hitched,’ and there are 70 people confirmed already. Liz then says that there is going to be a hitch info meeting on the 22nd to tell you about safety, what to tell your parents, and about hostel bookings.

2.6  Becca – secretary

Becca gives her quote and fact of the week. She then asks all those who have not given her their email address to give them to her after the meeting.

3.0  Other committee members

3.1  Shona Ambrose – Liaison officer and in charge of Climb Kilimanjaro

Shona explains that people should sign up to climb Kilimanjaro. If we get 15 more people then we can solely fund a project in Lesotho.

3.2  Amy – halls liaison officer

Amy explains that she is going to be organising an inter-hall poker tournament.

3.3  Pippa – publicity officer

Pippa asks if anyone would like to help out handing out posters in halls and academic buildings. She sends out a piece of paper asking if people want to want to help out with distribution.

4.0  AOCB

Will asks everyone who wants to climb the seven peaks of Edinburgh for CHSS to get in touch with him afterwards. He then explains about all the positions that can be run for at the EGM next Monday. Craig explains about the deputy treasurer. Will gives his email address and says to get in touch with ussacc@... Or him if they want to run for something at the EGM at least 24 hours before hand.

Will thanks everyone for turning up today and asks anyone who is interested in running for a position at the EGM to come up and have chat afterwards. He reminds everyone that Liz’s meeting is at 8.30pm in the committee room.
