The Students' Association is dedicated to representing and working for students and all the diverse issues that affect them. The Students' Representative Council, founded in the late 19th Century, is the body recognised by Government and the University as the voice of the students of St Andrews. It has six subcommittees: Education, Accommodation, Sustainability, Community Relations, Equal Opportunities & Welfare, and External Campaigns, each of which meet regularly to plan the Association's action on the pressing issues of the day.
Previous successes of the Association's representation activities include the abolition of the graduate endowment (in concert with other Scottish Students' Associations), shaping Parliamentary activity through lobbying visits and consultation responses, organising the semesterly Book Sale, creating strong links with St Andrews community leaders, and building a useful and mutually-beneficial relationship with the University. Current areas of activity include opposing Tier IV Immigration Legislation, working with NUS Scotland on the financial plight of students, calling for a review of advising within the University, and organising a Sexualities & Gender awareness programme - and much, much more.
The representation, advice and campaigns activities of the Students' Association are headed by the Director of Representation, Georgina Rannard, who can be contacted on dorep@st-andrews.ac.uk or phone extension 2700.
