The Barron Theatre is the home of Mermaids, and the only dedicated student theatre in St Andrews.  It houses a 60 seat black box studio theatre, as well as Mermaids’ extensive prop and costume store, a workshop, a meeting room and an office.  It is run on a day to day basis by the Theatre Administrator, Julie Amphlett, who is based in the Barron Office.

The Barron, with its intimate seating provides a unique space in which students can play and experiment with traditional and more avant-garde forms of theatre and other performing arts.  The “black box” structure provides a blank canvas which is endlessly adaptable an can be used for anything from full scale plays to one man shows, poetry readings and acoustic gigs.

The theatre is also used by local drama and music groups and can be booked by non-students as well as members of the University.  If you would like to make a booking or have any other enquiries then please contact Julie on 01334 461701, or you can email barron@st-andrews.ac.uk.

The Barron (formerly the Crawford Arts Centre Studio Theatre), is located on North Street, between the Cinema and St Salvator's Chapel.

This Wednesday and Thursday Music Is Love present THE SUMMER FESTIVAL in the Barron and the Bandstand.  For more details look on our "what's on" page.

From the 10th June there will no longer by a Theatre Administrator and all enquiries should be directed to the Students' Association - 01334 462700.  It will still be possible to hire the Barron and there will still be plays and events happening next year!

The Barron is always looking for volunteers to join the Box Office & Front of House team.  You get to see lots of plays and gigs as well as some excellent work experience.  No previous experience is necessary - you just need to be polite and enthusiastic! If you're interested then please email barron@st-andrews.ac.uk or call 01334 462700.
